Going Dairy Free

You can probably guess from the title what this post is about, if you can’t then basically I’ve given up dairy. Why? Well you can see in the video below: 

It’s been a week now since I gave up the creamy delights and as someone with a new understanding of my intolerance I was so excited to share with you the changes I’ve seen in myself since the stop. It is important to know that I don’t sweat the small stuff about it, I’ll eat a biscuit and will never ever opt for the dairy free desert, however the main bulk of my diet which used to consist of Greek yoghurt 2x a day and whey protein has changed.

Anyway… a week on here’s what’s change

  • skin has cleared up
  • Bloating gone
  • Leanness has stayed 
  • Finding high protein alternatives hasn’t been that hard – I use alpro GO ON yoghurt & now have vegan protein (see details below) 
  • Open to more and more vegan cooking 

    I’ve seen all these benefits in just under a week so the dairy free is defo a keeper. I get asked a lot about protein, how to hit protein goals or increase protein in general etc so I wasn’t surprised when the first question I got asked was ‘how you going to get your protein?’ 

    The guys at USN must have heard there was some changes going on because they kindly sent me some of their vegetarian protein & their sexy shaker … it’s stainless steel and boasts sass if you ask me 🤷‍♀️

    I’m always sceptical of trying vegan proteins because there are some dodgey ones out there and when the chocolate flavour came through the door my stomach got nervous, praying this was going to be nice.

    Looking at the back of the box, per serving has roughly 25g of protein which made me excited, however I then looked closer and noticed that was two scoops (50g) so roughly 200 cals, which is more cals than the whey proteins out there and some of the nastier vegan ones. 

    Personally I didn’t want the 200 cals in one shake so I opted for one scoop which still has a respectable 12.5g of protein… added water (always try the potential most disgusting option first as milk always tastes better) … and I loved it!! It blended well, tasted great and my little mind started ticking about what sweet treats I could add this too. 

    The 25g scoop holds 4g carbs which I’m happy with too, I can deal with that as I understand I’m going to have to compromise some added carbs compared to the whey if I’m going to want a great taste. 

    So overall, the taste was one of the best I’ve had of the vegan proteins. Yes, the protein isn’t as high as whey but 200 cals isn’t a bad amount to be having 25g of protein. It’s defo a keeper for my stomach.
